 The Orders Project in Kern is funded by the Legal Services Trust Fund (State Bar of California). It is a partnership project between Greater Bakersfield Legal Assistance, Inc. (GBLA) and Kern County Superior Court and the Family Law Facilitator’s Office.

Services
OPIK provides information through one-on-one assistance so that eligible pro per litigants in family law cases understand their Order After Hearing and Judgment and are able to proceed with next steps. 

Purpose
Parties can avoid preventable conflicts over the wording of vague Orders and the need to request future hearings because of these conflicts.

OPIK does not establish an attorney-client relationship. An “Orders Project in Kern Disclosure” is read, signed and dated by the self-represented litigant before the project provides any information.  The Disclosure Form outlines the limitations on the scope of services provided. 

Project staff are neutral and do not take sides. Information and assistance will be provided to the party who received the Order in the courtroom.  Thus, unrepresented Petitioners and Respondents will be referred by the Judicial Officers and Family Law Facilitator’s Office.
